Can you imagine a life without limitations?
Every day young adults with learning and perceptual disabilities are reminded about what they cannot do, rather than celebrated for what they can do. At GingerCloud Foundation, our Modified Rugby Program (MRP) recognises every young adults’ potential and creates a place, through rugby clubs, where they can experience success in a fun, supportive environment.
We’re thrilled that in 2019 the MRP Colts division for teenagers aged 14 – 22 (as a guide) with learning and perceptual disabilities is coming to UQ! We have 8 MRP Player positions available and we would love to get as many extended families from the UQ rugby community involved.
Research tells us that more than 14 per cent of young adults are significantly impacted by a learning and perceptual disability. Through the MRP Colts family, these young adults will find a place where they can do sport and do life.
The Assistant Coach of UQ is one of your own – the inspiring Connor Whelen of Red Jersey Fame. Connor was a PlayerMentor in our MRP Colts division at Wests Rugby last year and we are thrilled to now welcome him into the UQ rugby community.
The magic of the MRP Colts is that each young adult is matched with a university-aged PlayerMentor who supports them to learn rugby as well as how to become an active member of the UQ rugby club.
The MRP Colts division has been specifically modified in terms of the five senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell, attention, communication, social skills, proprioceptive and vestibular development to ensure that each and every MRP Player experiences success on the field.
